2018 Burton Name Dropper Snowboard Tech

The Burton Name Dropper has been an office favourite here over the last few years and has been described as having a “wet noodle” flex, while still being “poppy as f@#k”. This makes for a really playful park friendly ride for intermediates hell bent on progression, and a next-gen, all mountain weapon for the more advanced.

Off-Axis is the term that pops off Burton’s spec sheet with the Name Dropper

Off-Axis is the term that pops off Burton’s spec sheet with the Name Dropper. It features in most of the main tech of the board, from the super thin, super flex of the “Filet-O-Flex” construction, to the progressive minded pop of the “Squeezebox Low” milled core profile and the grippy, responsive “Frostbite edges“.

Off-Axis means that all these features are set at roughly +15° and -15° to match the rider’s stance. This gives the board a more fine tuned feel for the park with enhanced grip and smoother takeoffs/landings. The board rides differently on its heel and toe edge so that while it has a true twin shape and flex pattern, its asymmetrical construction means the bindings are mounted the same way goofy or regular, it’s just ridden in different directions.

The “Filet-O-Flex” core profile is so thin that the Burton “Channel” mounting system does not fit in the profile. To counter this they’ve added padded sections under the bindings which also gives the additional benefit of absorbing chatter and dampening out landings.

Burtons “Flat Top” camber is a zero camber underfoot that rockers out at the tip and tail. The flat camber provides plenty of trick stomping stability while the rocker gives it a more forgiving catch free feel. Paired with the tapered tip and tail thickness (Burton’s “Pro Tip”) the rockered, blunt nosed sections actually give it more float in powder than you would think from a board built specifically for park riding.

The Name Dropper is a super fun all mountain freestyle charger

But at the end of the day it’s the soft, buttery, jib friendly flex and the surprising amount of pop that you get with it, that keeps the Name Dropper faithful coming back for more. The Name Dropper is a super fun all mountain freestyle charger for mid to high level riders looking for a cool, tech heavy board to drop the hammer all over the hill.
